    The Hearth

Cinders are what a run leaves behind. Spend them here to add lanterns and new cards to future runs. Nothing here makes you stronger on its own; it gives you more ways to play.

    How to play

You have no weapon but the dash. It cuts everything it passes through.

    Keyboard and mouse

WASD or the arrow keys to move.

Aim with the mouse. Click or Space to dash.

    Esc or P to pause.

No mouse? Space dashes the way you are moving.

    Touch

Left thumb: drag anywhere on the left to move.

Right thumb: drag to aim, let go to dash.

A quick tap on the right dashes at the nearest enemy.

    The rules of the flame

    • Every dash spends Flame. The ring around you shows how many dashes you have left.
    • Every kill pays Flame back. Cut two or more in one dash and you come out ahead.
    • While you dash, nothing can hurt you. Dash through danger, not away from it.
    • Warm light is yours. Cold light is about to hurt you.
    • After each wave, choose one card. After each boss, choose a relic.
    • Fifteen waves, a boss on every fifth. Then, if you like, the dark goes on forever.

    About

Cinderwake is a small game about one idea: your movement is your weapon.

Everything you see is drawn on a canvas as you play, and every sound is synthesised in your browser. There are no image, font or audio files, no libraries, no accounts, no adverts, no tracking and no network requests. It runs offline and costs nothing.

Your progress is kept in this browser's local storage and never leaves your device. You can erase it under Settings.
